Chuck Norton passes away

From the Lewiston Tribune Obituaries:

Chuck passed away suddenly and peacefully at Tri-State Hospital Friday, March 13, of pneumonia, with his loving wife by his side.

He was born May 28, 1938, to Alfred and Grace Nelson Norton.

Chuck lived his entire life in the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley, graduating from Lewiston High School in 1956. He met Janette Grim while officiating at a church basketball game. They were married in 1959 and had four children: Kim, Cheri, Brent and Todd.

Although Chuck worked for the United States Postal Service for more than 36 years, retiring in 1995, his greatest passion was for sports! Many will remember him as "Mr. Softball." The Lewiston Parks and Recreation Department was a major part of his life. Whether it was officiating, scheduling or overseeing, Chuck was there for more than 50 years. In 2002, he was inducted into the Idaho State District II Officials Hall of Fame for basketball officiating. In 2007, he was inducted into the Idaho State ASA Hall of Fame for his years of softball officiating. He was currently serving as Idaho State District II High School girls' softball commissioner. He was also a huge Washington State University fan, having been a Cougar football season ticket holder for 30 years. He also enjoyed the Mariners and Seattle Seahawks.

Dad was happiest when his entire family was together. As much as he loved sports, his family was No. 1. He also enjoyed taking Scootie, his beloved dog and "fifth child," for walks and long rides in the car.

Chuck attended the Lewiston Seventh-day Adventist church; he enjoyed his weekly Bible studies.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; brother Jim; and sisters Anna Mae Halleen, Betty Elliot Clark; and his dog Scootie.

He is survived by his wife, Janette; daughters Kimberly (Ed) Dawson and Cheri (Gene) McCollum; and sons Brent Norton and Todd Norton.

Also surviving are six grandchildren, Brandon Dawson, Alyssa Patterson, Sara Dusky, Scott McCollum, Kyle Norton and Jenna Norton; and seven great-grandchildren.
